Current CompTIA Exam Changes
The CompTIA exam is one of the most respected exams within the information technology industry, and everyone in work related to this field, should consider certification. CompTIA is a professional organization that administers training and examinations for IT professionals. The examinations that CompTIA provide are not linked to one vendor or operating system, but are available for a global IT workforce.
Recently, this association has announced updates to its current security examination known as the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. This exam is administered under the guidelines of ISO 17024 accreditation, but has not been updated since 2008.
Some of the new key features to this security exam are the result of the organization’s hard work in monitoring changes and trends within the IT industry, especially IT security. Current research by CompTIA showed that companies prefer to have IT staff that are properly trained in the various areas of computer and network security. There is a willingness by companies to pay for training and certification for IT staff who did not have enough experience in IT security.
The certification administered by CompTIA is not only for the IT industry, but is also relevant for industries such as telecommunications. The changes to the exam reflect the new security issues that IT professionals will encounter. The exam certification now includes questions on virtualization, cloud computing, general security and IT forensics. Other changes to the CompTIA Security+ examination involve securing a network while using a cloud.
When reviewing a breakdown of the CompTIA Security+ examination, at least 20 percent of the exam questions will focus on threats, while another 16 percent is geared toward data and host security. Questions on network security will comprise 21 percent of the exam. Other questions found on the exam are a mixture of access control, identity management and encryption.
This might be one of the main changes in the Security+ examination. However, there are other CompTIA certifications and examinations that are offered. It is possible to take an exam in Cloud Essentials, Project+, CDIA+, Strata, Server, and Healthcare IT.
